Food, History and More Food!

New Haven, Connecticut was a delightful trip and my first New England state crossed off of my current travel list. I started my day off at the home of the first American hamburger, Louis Lunch. The burger was delicious and great for people who like their burgers rare (not me). If you are a picky eater I wouldn't suggest this restaurant to you because if you request your burger to be cooked or made a certain way you will get kicked out of the establishment. They take sticking to the original burger very seriously lol. But who can blame them because it is pretty delicious!

My next stop was touring the beautiful campus of Yale University. Yale offers several tours around the campus and I took advantage of the free student-led campus tour. The immaculate architecture and history-rich campus is a true treasure of New Haven!

The immaculate architecture and history-rich campus is a true treasure of New Haven! Before heading back on the road I stopped by Stowe's Seafood for an early dinner. (During my trips I like to eat early so I can beat the crowds!) The food was very good and fresh! Stowe's was also a perfect location for me to enjoy Peck Beach after my meal and soak in the view of Lighthouse Point from a distance. With gas, food, and parking included the cost of my trip was $37.79.

Fall Fun

With fall in the air, there is no way I could not explore the local New York Apple farms! Apple picking has become my new favorite past time over these past two months. My first experience was with my fellow AmeriCorps members. Before going to the farm I imagined big trees and having to use a ladder to reach the apples but there was no need for a ladder and the trees weren't that tall. Since my first time picking apples I have returned two times to the same farm, Fishskill Farms with my family. Apples have always been a favorite fruit of mine and actually knowing that I picked them straight from the tree makes them taste even better! The scenery, live music, fresh apple cider doughnuts and produce store make Fishskill Farms a great destination for a family and friends outing!

Burgers and Beach

I have had the pleasure of meeting some awesome people while serving in AmeriCorps! The new connections I have made led a group of us to explore a part of New York City we have never been to, Coney Island. Our main reason for visiting Coney Island was to try out the new Walburgers restaurant that just opened this past summer (yes we are foodies). The meal at Walburgers was good but not amazing honestly. The onion rings and the milkshake I had were my favorite. After eating we explored the boardwalk and took some pictures at a mural exhibit. Coney Island was a ton of fun and I highly recommend going if you are ever in New York.

For my Fellow Foodies:

Recently I took a trip to Washington DC and had some AMAZING food. The soul food at Oohh's and Aahh's was beyond delicious! And their collard greens are possibly the best on earth! (Sorry mom lol)

A Taste of D.C.

My last day in DC I got to attend the Taste of DC event using a discount ticket I bought on Groupon (my new best friend). I misunderstood the details of the event and thought the price of the food was included in the entry ticket but unfortunately, we also had to pay for samples but the prices were pretty low and worth it! The most exotic dish I tried was grilled octopus from Claudia's Steakhouse which was awesome! Food trucks and restaurants from all over DC were present and I can truly say I died and went to foodie heaven that day! DC hands down has some of the best food in the world!
